How to Optimize your Article Marketing

I have made a video to show you how you can really optimize your article marketing by building a ton of backlinks to either your websites or other articles using an article submission software product called ArticleBot

Article Marketing is still a very effective strategy and is widely used by most of the top Internet Marketers to drive traffic and build backlinks to their websites.

By submitting your article to many different article directories, and linking back to your website, or even another article in your resource box you are going to build a lot of quality backlinks. This in turn will help improve your search engine rankings for either your website or your main article.

To manually submit articles to hundreds of different article directories would take forever, it just isn’t practical. You could outsource the job, but that will cost you a lot of money. The best way to do this is to use a software tool.

I regularly use one called ArticleBot. It is not as fancy as some of top ones, but I personally think it is one of the best available because of it’s ease of use and reliability and also the results it can produce. It is a VERY effective piece of software, and another great part is the price, coming in at just under $25.

I always use Ezine Articles as my main article directory. They are the best out there by a long way, and I also find that once your article gets published it more often than not gets indexed and ranked very quickly. They also respond well to backlinking, and I still have many articles that are sitting in position 1 in Google for their chosen keyword, after using this strategy of building backlinks to them by using ArticleBot.

Ezine Articles don’t allow you to use affiliate links withing your article or resource box. So if you wanted to link directly to an affiliate product you can do this by buying a domain name and redirecting it. You only need to buy a .info domain name for this, they cost $0.99 a year at GoDaddy.com. I made a video a while back that shows you how to do this redirect, you can watch the video here.

When you use a piece of article submission software then it is always a good idea to spin your article so you are not posting the same content to hundreds of different directories. Google will see this when they are published and you will lose rankings for you article because of this. There are many different article spinners available, but make sure you don’t just go for the cheapest option as they can produce some really poorly spun articles that don’t make much sense when you read them after they have been spun. One I use now is called the Best Spinner, and it does a great job.

To make your backlinks in your resource box, you want to use a simple piece of HTML code that will allow you to use your main keyword phrase as your anchor text. This basically wraps your URL up so that it can’t be seen and will show your main keyword as the anchor text, so that when somebody clicks on it they will go to your website or article.

I will give you a sample of the HTML code to use so you can put it in your resource boxes:

<a href=”http://www.YourWebsiteOrArticleHere.com”>The best website</a>

So what you would need to do is replace the http://www.YourWebsiteOrArticleHere.com with your own full URL to either your website or article. Make sure you place it between the ” “.

Where you see the words in the example above, The best website, this will be your anchor text (the words that will be shown and people can click on). You want to try and make these your main keyword phrase.

This is a very powerful and effective technique for building quality backlinks to your websites and articles. You do need to use an article submission software tool, and I would highly recommend using ArticleBot as it is a great piece of software, easy to use and it costs just under $25.

Paul, thanks for sharing that info.

It is a subject that I have recently thought I must get around to. I have only just started with ezine.com – early days.

I haven’t tried any of this yet but I know I should – and I will!

However, it occured to me that… if you spin the main article for submission to hundreds of other directories, is the spun article the one and the same that goes to each directory?

If so, then surely there will be hundreds of examples of the identical article spread over all of the directories.

Then of course Google will see it as duplicate content – big time!

Is this the case, or havce I missed something here?

    I would appreciate your comment.

    Many thanks

    Peter

  2. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your comment. Good to hear you’re thinking of getting into article marketing, it really is a very versatile and effective method to use.
Just to address your query, I never spin an article that I have posted as my ‘main’ article on Ezine Articles. I will get another article of the same topic, and then spin that and submit to the hundreds of other article directories with the software. If you spin the article well enough it will give the software enough options to make each article look different as different words have been used. Google are very quick on these things though and they have now programmed their spiders to look out for different things which might identify an article as coming from one source, even if the words are different. Things like paragraphs and word count being almost the same in each one, the number of sentances in each paragraph etc. So if you really want to mix an article up you have to start mixing the sentances around even more.
But for the purpose of building backlinks, then a normal spinned article (done thoroughly) should be sufficient.

    Hope that helps Peter.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for this post it was really helpful.

Can you suggest anything similar for traffic generation to a blog?

    Thanks Sally :)

  4. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Sally,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. You can write articles and link back to your Blog too, i have several articles doing that for this Blog. But a method I find more effective is to create a video, such as this one in this post and post it around to many different video sharing sites using a piece of software such as VideoBot http://www.incansoftware.info/VideoBot/

This works in many ways, people will watch your videos on the video sharing sites themselves, then click on the link you put in your description box to get back to your video. One of your videos could get ranked high in the search engines for the keyword you are aiming for, and people could find it that way. Plus again, you will build up a great deal of quality backlinks by posting your video to many different video sharing sites by linking back to your Blog in the description box. This can help boost the rankings for your Blog so you will get more organic traffic from the dearch engines.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks,
    Paul

That’s great advice cheers Paul, your a star! :)

  6. PJ Bess says:

    Paul,

Great video! I have actually had Article Bot for some time and didn’t know how to use it until your video. Do you aim for a certain number of articles that you are looking to publish each day? I have another question as well. Is article marketing tme well spent for the traffic you get with it? I am looking at getting involved with it on a deeper level to try to build some initial traffic to a new blog.

  7. Paul Hooper says:

Hi PJ, thanks for stopping by. No, i don’t aim for a set amount to be published every day. I only post articles now when I have built a new website and want to get some links coming back from these articles to the site. Usually when i order my articles for a site, i order a few extra so i can post them on Ezine Articles and then a couple i will use to spin and blast around the other directories. Article marketing can be very effective for driving traffic if you can get your article ranked high enough and there are enough searches for your keyword phrase to send you good traffic. You keyword research is vitally important, and then adding enough backlinks to the article to get it to stick in first position is another deciding factor, if you get those two things right then you will get a lot of traffic from your article.

    Hope that helps,
    Thanks,
    Paul

  8. Paul loved the video I never thought of using the .info link to save on cash always use .com will have to try that out.

Something I did want to mention if you said this and I missed this sorry. You can also use this method to test market a niche and see if it something that you want to go into by writing a few articles under a pen name and buying a URL and redirecting to that domain. Than you can pick 1 or 2 affiliate products to redirect to and it seems like you are getting traffic than you can actually build a blog on that domain and take off the redirect and you already have back links in place. Put those affiliate products on the blog in banners or whatever your preference and you are all set to go.

Hope this helps love your blog will come back and visit.

    Chris

  9. Deemoz says:

I just stumbled upon your blog and I want to invite you to submit your blog link on my free directory. It will help you boost your page rank, search engine rankngs and eventually visitors.

  10. I have been submitting articles for a couple of months now, using a submitted called Brad Callen’s Article Submitter, which is the manual version, which of course takes a lot of time for mass distribution. I am interested in your comments about articlebot and the use of spun articles. Are you really saying that this software will submit a different (but spun) article to each directory??. If this is the case then I will buy the product staight away.

I too use the Best Spinner and your comments to Peter Tozer about Google’s ability to check duplicate content is very interesting. I have long wondered whether by submitting an article en-mass, one will fall foul of the concept of “the duplicate content slap”, although it is hard to see, if the article sits on hundred’s of article directories what Google will do about it. Perhaps you have some insight.

  11. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Adrian,

ArticleBot doesn’t have it’s own Spinner. but you can import a spun article into it to use, yes. It only handles basic spin syntax, so you won’t be able to do any fancy spinning, such as sentence and paragraph spinning with the Best Spinner and import the article into ArticleBot. But if you just do a basic word for word spin then it will be fine. ArticleBot would then randomly pick your spun words in your article to make a differently worded article each time it posts to a different directory.

Google can indeed detect duplicate content, and their algorithms are getting very advanced now too. Google doesn’t actually penalize duplicate content as such, it just ignores it and only pays attention to the first one. So it just makes duplicate content very hard to rank anywhere in the search engines as the Google spiders will never give it any preference once they know its duplicate.

That is why you should always put your best unique content on either your website, or your main article directory such as Ezine Articles. The spin other articles to submit to the masses and build up your backlinks.

    Hope that helps,
    Paul

  12. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Chris,

I only ever use a .info domain as a redirect, i wouldn’t use one for a website. You could use your method to test a market, a bit of reverse engineering. I have some pretty good software that usually tells me if a there is a good market in a chosen niche, saves a lot of time :-)

    Thanks,
    Paul

  13. Vance Sova says:

    Hi Paul,

Submitting articles to directories still works no doubt about that.

I’ve been resisting article submitters though and perhaps I should change that.

Is this submitter a one time fee or is it ongoing?

I don’t have the time to watch your video right now but I’ll be back soon to view it.

    Vance

  14. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Vance,

ArticleBot is a one time fee, which makes it such good value. It is a great piece of software, as it isn’t overcomplicated with to many bells and whistles, but it does the job it is supposed to do and does it well.

    Hope you’re well Vance.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  15. Hi
You are so right I just started article marketing about 2 months ago and was amazed at how much traffic and links I got. I don’t think people use it enough.

  16. Thanks for your info re article bot. I did consider using this article and its valuable to get a real take on this product from someone’s that’s used it.

  17. hey paul,

great post and please come visit my new blog, i would love your feedback. thanks for this info i really gotta create some articles and them submitted, would you recommend outsourcing this task?

  24. Chuck says:

I don’t understand this anchor text business. Why can’t you just use your website url as is?

  25. Lately I have been doing a lot of directory submissions to build up my backlinks. I write an article and then submit it to the following sites for approval: 1. Ezinearticles.com (constanly crawled by google) 2. Goarticles.com (huge site, lots of traffic) 3. Rysite.com (tweets articles + quick indexing) 4. Articlealley.com (easy to submit to) 5. buzzle.com (has a high PR and is very popular) By submitting articles to those sites, i have recieved a lot of traffic. Especially from rysite.com because i get traffic not only from my article, but they tweet it to a following based on your keyword and as a result I get traffic from twitter as well. Hope that helps!

  26. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Chuck, anchor text is used for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes. To give your backlinks more ‘weight’ it always helps to have the search term that you are aiming your link at. When somebody types a search term into a search engine, the search engine will then bring up the most relevant results, and by adding your targeted search term as you anchor text you are improving your chances of your website or article showing up in these results.

  27. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Domingo, thank you for sharing these sites, i use all of them except for Rysite. Ezine Articles also has an option in your account area to tweet every article you have submit as soon as it gets published. I have found this to be a good way of getting some initial traffic to your article as soon as it is published.

  28. Cliff Truss says:

    Hi Paul,

Haven’t been here in a while – glad to see that you’re still providing great value to your readers!

Article marketing works – full stop – thanks for the tips for the articlebot and TheBestSpinner.

I was using unique article wizard ($67 per month) for article submission and contentboss for spinning ($29 per month) that’s $100 a month versus a one off $25 for AB and $77 per year for TBS. I wish you had posted this a few months ago – would have saved me a few bob!

Anyway, I’ve since cancelled my membership with UAW and CB as i’ve changed direction back to my blog and product creation. But will bookmark this page for future reference.

    One question…

Can you “drip feed” the article submission process with AB? Or does it submit to the 450 article directories all at once? (if u mentioned this in your video – sorry – didn’t have the time to watch it all)

Oh yeah, I didn’t see the link to your post about redirecting the .info site to the affiliate page.

    Best wishes,

    Cliff

  29. Pauline says:

I have used ArticleBot in the past with mixed success. It does take a bit of time to set up but then you have a lot of directories to submit to. I haven’t submitted a marketing article to Ezinearticles as yet but have used it for a niche article.

I must say I like the Incansoft products though on the whole.

  30. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Cliff,

Good to hear from you again, hope all is well with you. With ArticleBot, you can drip feed the article to just a section of directories rather than all of them, you just need to set up separate profiles with the amount of directories you want in each. The initial setup stage with AB is quite time consuming but once you have set everything up it is a breeze to use.

The link for the redirecting the .info domain was actually at the end of the sentence “you can watch the video here”., the word “here” was a hyperlink, just the links don’t show up in a different color, i need to look into that.

So how’s your niche blogging coming along Cliff? I will send you an email soon to catch up, i’m interested to see how your sites are coming along.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  31. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Pauline, yes in my view that is the only downside to ArticleBot, the initial set up time, but once you have that done everything runs very smoothly with it. Incansoft do make some excellent software products, and their prices have always been unbeatable.

  32. Nick says:

    Hi Paul

That was a great post about articles. I am glad you have rated article bot> I am using a monthly paid program that costs a fortune. So I think I will move over.

  33. Darren says:

You just saved me a ton of money! I was going to invest in one of the more expensive article submission software products, but I am going to take your recommendation and use article bot for 25 bucks. Thanks for the info and I’ll certainly be reading more of your stuff on article marketing.

  34. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Darren, yes ArticleBot is excellent value for money and a great piece of software too, it just makes your article marketing so much more effective.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  35. Alice says:

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the great info on submitting articles. I am just getting started with article marketing so all of the great tips that you provided will really come in handy. I will go take a look at ArticleBot.

Thanks too for explaining on the process of spinning articles this will be a great help too! I will come and visit your blog often for more great content. Thanks again!

    All the best,
    Alice

  36. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Alice, thanks for coming over and leaving your comment. Glad you found it helpful too :-)

    Thanks,
    Paul

  37. Article marketing is really great if you have the time and effort to make new articles each day.`..

  38. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Mariah, article marketing is a very effective strategy to use. If you don’t have time to write them yourself then you can outsource them fairly cheaply.

  39. Anand says:

Can you please list important article sites listed under articlebot software? I’ve this software and I am finding it difficult to create accounts in all the sites.

  40. Brian says:

The duplicate content penalty is a myth, Googles own view on it is that they do not penalise duplicate content as long as it is posted in different directories or on different domains and is not a clear attempt to try and influence search engine results.

What they do penalise are multiple links to the same URL on a single domain or in a single directory using the same content, spun or otherwise.

An analogy of this would be someone selling a record and using different distribution outlets i.e. they look for a different customer who frequent different shops. Nothing wrong with that, it is considered normal, just like some people going to Ezine Articles for information and other people going to Articles Alley.

  41. Quentin Whidbee says:

Hey Paul, really enjoyed the video great content this will definitely help me. My question to you is the articles that you submit manually of course number one Ezine Articles do you use different content for each or do you use the same as Ezine?

  42. Cliff Truss says:

    Hi Paul,

    How’s it going?

First off, apologies for not getting back in touch with you for so long…I’ve had another change of direction!

I’m now trying to crack it in the offline niche, providing my clients with market research and article creation and distribution.

    Wish me luck!

    No more changes!!

Anyway, I wanted to ask you your opinion on what’s the best method of backlinking in the resource box? Back to your site or back to your ezine article? You show both methods in your video.

    Best wishes & take care,

    Cliff

  43. Paul Hooper says:

Hi Quentin, i use unique articles only for Ezine Articles. All the other directories will have different articles posted to them, not the same as on EA.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  44. Tilly Holmes says:

i always use article marketing to sell products and services, it is a very effective way to promote”*”

  45. Marcus Ochoa says:

Hi Paul, I was wondering if you ever use links in the body of the article, or only in the resource box when using articlebot? Isn’t there some directories that only allow links in the resource box and even some that don’t allow anchor text in the resource box?

  46. Paul Hooper says:

    Hi Marcus,

No, not when posting to article directories as most will not allow links in the main article body and i don’t post them to each directory manually. When i post articles on Blog networks such as SEO linkvine then i will always put them in the main body.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Paul
